She has herself claimed in many of her interviews that the diasporic subjects especially women are concerned about their identity, an identity which they try to reinvent constantly. She is a modernist writer. Her works, insights take precedence ov er compulsion of technique. She acknowledges the paradoxes in a given epoch, and wages an artistic, cultural, ideological and philosophical struggle. In this sense, she posits ego, love, freedom, sex, signs of modernism, as problematic through their modern sensibilities. She tries to locate meaning in the life around, and then try to respond to the modern conditions of individual isolation and cultural fracture, throughout her narration. Chitra Banerjee has grappled with contemporary issues and a variety of themes motherhood, mothering, marriage, individualization, class, conflicts, marginalization, woman as wife, mother, sister and lastly, yet significantly, woman as human, not just a sex object. Human resource management a contemporary approach - Free Samples

Question: Discuss about theHuman resource management a contemporary approach. Answer: Introduction Communication is essential to conduct the activities of the organization in a smooth way. Effective communication in a workplace is an important part of the organization to achieve overall goals and objectives. It is related to exchanging the information with each other in a proper manner. Communication problems are the major issue faced by many organizations. So, in this report, the emphasis will be given on the issue related to the workplace communication strategies by taking into consideration the point "connecting with the employees". Connecting with employees means to communicate with the employees who are working in the organization. Proper communication is important as it helps to enhance the productivity and profitability of the organization ((Marchington et al., 2016). In the first phase of the report, the discussion will be made on the connection with the employees and also the issues related to the employees. In the last phase of the report, the recommendation and conclusion will be made by considering the issues related to the connection with the employees. Communication or to make connection with Employees (Connecting with employees) It is seen that communication with the employees is important to enhance trust between the employees and the management. To achieve success in the market the communication requires management support, a clear strategy and evaluation of the activities in a proper manner. If there is proper communication with the employees then the activities of the organization can be conducted with efficiency (Beardwell and Thompson, 2014). There are many issues faced by the management at the time of connecting with employees. It is important to minimize the issue so that the confidence level of the employees can be enhanced to conduct the activities of the organization. Effective workplace communication ensures that the goals and objectives of the organization are attained. Also, connecting with the employees means to make proper understanding between the employees and management, so that they can understand each other properly (Sadia et al., 2016). Issues related to connect with the employees The organization faces various issues at the time of connecting with the employees. The issues are: Unclear goals This is the issue that is related to connect with the employees. If the goals of the organization are not clear then it can create a barrier to conduct the activities of the organization in a correct direction. The employees sometimes hesitate to communicate the queries with the managers. So if the activities are not clear then it can be difficult for the employee to communicate effectively with the top management and miscommunication also takes place between the management and the employees. So it is important to clear the goals properly so that the employees can connect efficiently. Lack of leadership At the time of connecting with people if there is lack of leadership then it can hinder the work of employees. Employees consider the directions given by their leaders, but when management lack the ability of leadership then it is difficult to maintain proper understanding and communication between the manager and the employee of the organization. Lack of leadership also gives negative impact on communication pattern of the organization. If the employer is unable to give proper directions to the employees then it creates various questions in the mind of the employee and the issue related to connecting with the employee arises. To connect with people proper guidance is important so that the message or the information can be clearly given to an individual (Dinh et al., 2014). Language barriers At the time of connecting with the employees, the language barrier between the individuals of different backgrounds and people of different age groups takes place. The language barrier can slow the process of communication and can also create misunderstandings that make communication ineffective (Delery and Gupta, 2016). Understanding can be made if the language is proper and can be understood easily. So the issue is faced at the time of communicating or connecting with the people of the organization. Misunderstanding is also created due to the change in the language. It is seen to connect with the people proper understanding should be made so that the activities can be conducted smoothly. For example: If an individual understands Chinese then it is important to speak Chinese so that the information given is clear and also proper connection will be made. Lack of feedback To exchange information with each other or to connect with each other it is important to provide feedback so that the quality of the information can be enhanced. It is seen that if the employees are not given chance to give feedback then it can create difficulty at the time of communicating or connecting with the people. When there is lack of feedback then only the company faces the issue to connect with the employees who are working in the organization. If there is no proper feedback provided by the employees then it can lead to an issue in connecting with the employees. If the employees are not given a platform to share their views then it can be difficult to connect with the employees. There are many organization where employees do not get chance to exchange their information or to share the views than in this situation it creates a problem to connect with the employees in a proper manner (Nathwani et al., 2017). Culture diversity It is seen that world is turning into more of a global village. It is common to search people from various backgrounds and locations. The diversity encouraged in various organizations and still, it is seen that it led to poor communication. It is analyzed that due to the different culture of people it sometimes causes difficulty to connect with the people (Verburg and Boon, 2015). Power and hierarchy The major issue that takes place to connect to the employees is power and hierarchy. It is seen that due to the hierarchy it is difficult to connect with the employees as the workers also feel hesitated to approach their managers. As there are many managers in the organization so if the hierarchy is followed it creates and modifies the actual message into something different. It sometimes creates conflicts between the employees and the management. The lower level management gets some different message that is transferred to the top management. The actual message changes due to the transfer of information through many individuals. It creates difficult to give proper information to the employees or to connect with the individuals in an effective manner (Obeidat and Abdallah, 2014). Attitude and Ego It is seen that the activities in the organization are stopped due to the ego and attitude of an individual. Ego issue is the biggest challenge for the leader that causes bad communication in the organization. To connect with the employees it is important to create proper understanding so that they can conduct the activities smoothly. But if ego comes between the leader and the employee then it is difficult to communicate effectively and also the understanding cannot be maintained (Solomon, 2015). Recommendations Proper understanding and communication with the employees play a great role to accomplish overall goals and objectives. To connect with the employees it is important to conduct face to face interaction with the employees so that the discussion can be confidential. The employees should be given chance to speak so that they can give proper feedback and the connection can be enhanced with the employees. The managers of the organization should also emphasize on conducting regular schedules. The schedule should be made in such a manner so that the interaction can be maintained for the important issues prevailing in the organization. To create a better connection with the employees it is important to motivate the employees and value the work done by them. To enhance the efficiency of the employees into action it is important to take care of their mindset and what they actually require or needs. They should be given chance to share their views so that they can feel motivated and dedicated towards the activities of the organization (Biniari et al., 2017). Conclusion So, by evaluating the report it is concluded that communication plays a great role to conduct the activities of the organization in a smooth manner. Proper connection with the employees helps the organization to reach the mission. So, every company should try to minimize the issues by considering proper strategies like: employees should be given a platform to share their ideas and views. The Legend of Romulus and Remus Essay Example

The Legend of Romulus and Remus Paper Romulus and Remus were twin brothers. Their father was Mars, the God of War; their mother was Rhea Silvia, a vestal virgin and daughter of the King, Numitor. Numitors brother, Amulius, had taken the throne from him and had forced Rhea Silvia to become a vestal virgin so that she would not have any children who might try to take back the throne. When the boys were born, Amulius seized them, put them into a basket and threw them into the river Tiber. He hoped that they would drown. However, the boys were rescued by a she-wolf who fed the babies with her own milk and cared for them. A shepherd called Faustulus saw the wolf with the baby boys. He took them home to his wife. They called the boys Romulus and Remus. When they grew up the boys became shepherds like Faustulus. One day they had a fight with another group of shepherds. Remus was arrested and sent to Numitor as a prisoner. When Numitor heard the story he realised that Remus was his grandson! He told Romulus and Remus what had happened to him and their mother. For revenge, Romulus and Remus attacked their Uncle Amulius and killed him. After that, Romulus and Remus went to live with their grandfather in Alba Longa, but they got bored and missed the countryside where they grew up. Homer Simpsons Figures of Speech

Homer Simpsons Figures of Speech English? Who needs that? Im never going to England! Woo-hoo! The immortal words of Mr. Homer Simpson- beer-guzzling, donut-popping patriarch, nuclear-power-plant safety inspector, and Springfields resident rhetorician. Indeed, Homer has contributed far more to the English language than just the popular interjection Doh. Lets take a look at some of those rich contributions- and along the way review several rhetorical terms. Homers Rhetorical Questions Consider this exchange from a Simpson family symposium: Mother Simpson: [singing] How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?Homer: Seven.Lisa: No, dad, its a rhetorical question.Homer: OK, eight.Lisa: Dad, do you even know what rhetorical means?Homer: Do I know what rhetorical means? In fact, Homeric logic often depends on a rhetorical question for its expression: Books are useless! I only ever read one book, To Kill A Mockingbird, and it gave me absolutely no insight on how to kill mockingbirds! Sure it taught me not to judge a man by the color of his skin . . . but what good does that do me? One particular type of rhetorical question favored by Homer is erotesis, a question implying strong affirmation or denial: Donuts. Is there anything they cant do? Homers Figures of Speech Though sometimes misjudged as a complete moron, Homer is actually a deft manipulator of the oxymoron: Oh Bart, dont worry, people die all the time. In fact, you could wake up dead tomorrow. And our favorite figure of ridicule is actually quite handy with figures of speech. To explain human behavior, for instance, he relies on personification: The only monster here is the gambling monster that has enslaved your mother! I call him Gamblor, and its time to snatch your mother from his neon claws! Chiasmus guides Homer to new levels of self-understanding: All right, brain, I dont like you and you dont like meso lets just do this, and Ill get back to killing you with beer. And here, in just five words, he manages to combine apostrophe and tricolon in a heartfelt encomium: Television! Teacher, mother, secret lover. Of course, Homer isnt always familiar with the names of such classical figures: Lisa: Thats Latin, Dadthe language of Plutarch.Homer: Mickey Mouses dog? But stop snickering, Lisa: the language of Plutarch was Greek. Simpson Repeats Like the great orators of ancient Greece and Rome, Homer employs repetition to evoke pathos and underscore key points. Here, for example, he inhabits the spirit of Susan Hayward in a breathless anaphora: I want to shake off the dust of this one-horse town. I want to explore the world. I want to watch TV in a different time zone. I want to visit strange, exotic malls. I’m sick of eating hoagies! I want a grinder, a sub, a foot-long hero! I want to LIVE, Marge! Won’t you let me live? Won’t you, please?† Epizeuxis serves to convey a timeless Homeric truth: When it comes to compliments, women are ravenous blood-sucking monsters always wanting more . . . more . . . MORE! And if you give it to them, youll get plenty back in return. And polyptoton leads to a profound discovery: Marge, whats wrong? Are you hungry? Sleepy? Gassy? Gassy? Is it gas? Its gas, isnt it? Homeric Arguments Homers rhetorical turns, especially his efforts to argue by analogy, sometimes take odd detours: Son, a woman is a lot like a . . . a refrigerator! Theyre about six feet tall, 300 pounds. They make ice, and . . . um . . . Oh, wait a minute. Actually, a woman is more like a beer.Son, a woman is like a beer. They smell good, they look good, youd step over your own mother just to get one! But you cant stop at one. You wanna drink another woman! You know, boys, a nuclear reactor is a lot like a woman. You just have to read the manual and press the right buttons.Fame was like a drug. But what was even more like a drug were the drugs. Yes, Mr. Simpson is occasionally word challenged, as in the malapropism that punctuates this distinctively Homeric prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for this microwave bounty, even though we dont deserve it. I mean . . . our kids are uncontrollable hellions! Pardon my French, but they act like savages! Did you see them at the picnic? Oh, of course you did. Youre everywhere, youre omnivorous. Oh Lord! Why did you spite me with this family? Consider as well Homers eccentric (or perhaps dyslexic?) use of hypophora (raising questions and answering them): Whats a wedding? Websters dictionary describes it as the act of removing weeds from ones garden. And now and then his thoughts collapse before he can make it to the end of a sentence, as in this case of aposiopesis: I wont sleep in the same bed with a woman who thinks Im lazy! Im going right downstairs, unfold the couch, unroll the sleeping bauh, goodnight. The Master Rhetorician But for the most part, Homer Simpson is an artful and deliberate rhetorician. For one thing, hes a self-proclaimed master of verbal irony: Owww, look at me, Marge, Im making people happy! Im the magical man, from Happy Land, who lives in a gumdrop house on Lolly Pop Lane! . . . By the way I was being sarcastic. And he dispenses wisdom with dehortatio: The code of the schoolyard, Marge! The rules that teach a boy to be a man. Lets see. Dont tattle. Always make fun of those different from you. Never say anything, unless youre sure everyone feels exactly the same way you do. Next time you catch The Simpsons on TV, see if you can identify additional examples of these rhetorical concepts: analogyanaphoraaposiopesisapostrophechiasmusdehortatioencomiumepizeuxiserotesisfigures of speechhypophoramalapropismoxymoronpersonificationpolyptotonrhetorical questiontricolonverbal irony

Women and the advancement they have made in society Essay

Women and the advancement they have made in society - Essay Example They have come at par with men and work shoulder to shoulder with men in every matter. The per capita income of women has increased over the years. Women have made their representation noticeable in the social and political scenario. â€Å"Moreover, extensive local, national and global networks of women have succeeded in putting women’s concerns on the global agenda and catalyzed the creation of legal and institutional mechanisms to address these concerns† (â€Å"Perspective: The eradication of violence†). Today, many NGOs are functional that work for the rights of women. Despite the rapid advancement of women in the society, women have continued to be the victims of domestic violence. A lot of women are mutilated, humiliated, raped and abused every day. However, the reaction of society to such issues has changed in the favor of women. In the past, many such cases went uninvestigated for many reasons. Either women were too shy to bring such issues in front of the society and put their modesty at stake, or else, the systems were not as established to ensure an efficient working against the criminals. However, in the contemporary age, women have become quite vocal regarding the injustice they are offered which has shaken the foundations of violence in the society.

Petitions of African Chiefs Essay Example for Free

Petitions of African Chiefs Essay 1. When the slave trade was abolished in certain regions of Africa, the Africans were forced to find other alternative sources of livelihood such as entering in a legitimate trade of shipping various products.     Ã‚  Instead of selling human beings as merchandise, the Africans accepted the timber trade when it was introduced by the Europeans.   However, when   the timber trade did not succeed, they turned to growing and exporting ground nuts and when this too did not come through, the Africans resorted to palm oil trading – the subject of King Ockiya’s letter to the Earl of Derby. 2. Since the abolition of the African slave trade, Africans having been trying to find other sources of income and livelihood.   Among such is the valued palm oil which they collected from the hinterlands.   However, greedy British traders wanted to bypass them and go directly to the source of these valued commodity.   Hence, the African leaders were asking the British to let them have their own source of livelihood, free of intervention from the Europeans who were already encroaching on their trading posts thereby stopping the African trade completely. The petitions and demands of the African leaders show how powerful the Europeans are that even building huts or places of abode are considered taxable.   Nonetheless, these ruthlessness of the Europeans paved the way for the Africans to wake up and saw all of these as an assault to their customs, livelihood and traditions. Lin’s Letter to Queen Victoria 1. The rise of the opium trade in China according to Lin has poisoned and injured its people.   The laws of the country have been disregard in lieu of the temptations and addiction of the opium drug. 1. Lin tries to convince Queen Victoria to stop the opium trade by appealing to their conscience and strict morality. He tries to emphasize that since opium is forbidden in Britain and brings harm to the British people, the Queen must condemn it as well especially its importation.   As Lin proudly said, China has only exported things that are beneficial to the people and opium is not one of them. By giving the impression that China only exports things that are beneficial, from which the world has undoubtedly benefited, Lin thinks that Queen Victoria and the rest of Britain might be convinced of his argument.   However, the tone of Lin’s letter is also threatening whereby he gives the appearance that China in consonance with its laws will not hesitate to execute anyone caught selling and using the prohibited drug. Hence, the response of the British will naturally be to disregard Lin and his contention, even get angry at such preposterousness.
